As a new parent, it’s easy to get caught in a rut introducing new foods to a toddler. You start off with single ingredient vegetables and fruits, and then as your baby builds a palate of tried and tested foods you start mixing things up. Pears mixed with apples here and potatoes mixed with peas there – watch out world, you’re feeling daring!
Then a few weeks go by, steam is starting to run out and feeding baby is no longer all fun but resulting in flying spoons and splatter walls. You’re worried that too many fruits is going to create a Willy Wonka sweet tooth crazed baby. So you decide to stick to the savory route. Except you’re fresh out of ideas. What to do?!
Swap your favorite savory baby food purees with other parents! Share your recipes with us by Sunday, April 22nd at 11:59 PM.
Update: We’re giving away a basket of OXO Tot goodies (read about them here)! To enter, just submit a Favorite Savory Puree recipe by April 22nd.

Does hummus count as a savory puree? I make homemade hummus for my son using canned chickpeas and store bought tahini. I sometimes make it plain and sometimes add in different things like roasted red peppers, pureed white beans or pureed eggplant. Sometimes even a little swirl of leftover pesto. There are plenty of ways to serve it and it’s packed with protein!
That counts and it all sounds delicious! Why don’t you you send us a recipe for your basic hummus and ideas for ad-ins?
