About Half Pint Gourmet
Half Pint Gourmet is a platform for making cooking for and feeding babies and toddlers a community experience through recipe sharing, parent features and a blog covering topics related to feeding little ones. We curate and cull through recipes and expert information to create a resource for encouraging young children to develop a healthy, adventurous approach to eating.
Meet the Editors
Christina lives in Brooklyn with her husband and toddler son, Alec. Christina grew up in and around an Italian-American family, where her grandmother’s kitchen always smelled like meaty Jersey tomatoes simmering on the stove. As a result, Christina has never bought or eaten jarred tomato sauce (eeek). She loves cooking for family and friends (who often need to be lured to Brooklyn with food), but equally loves eating a bowl of Cheerios for dinner when no one else is around to dine with her. Christina feels lucky to have a son whose first word was “pizza,” who loves garlic and lamb tagine, and who has – so far – demonstrated great enthusiasm for most of the meals Christina puts in front of him. Christina works at the United Nations, where culinary ideas from around the world abound. Follow Christina on Twitter at http://twitter.com/cr_bennett or email her at christina@halfpintgourmet.com.
Nithya lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter, Surya – a little girl with lots of hair and a big appetite. Nithya grew up in an Indian family raised on a vegetarian diet of bold cooking with an emphasis on lentils, vegetables and spices. Her first thought of the day often is about what’s for dinner and she’s known to read Food & Wine magazine at the gym (when she goes). Nithya’s food philosophy in raising Surya has been to bring on food and flavors early and let Surya try everything (everything that’s vegetarian). She’s realistic though that any day now Surya will wake up and insist that she’ll only eat crackers and yogurt. Nithya also blogs about traditional Indian cooking at Hungry Desi and is a start-up company lawyer by day. Karen lives in Brooklyn with her son Max and husband Jake. Karen has always loved to cook, but how and what she cooks has changed quite a bit since she became a parent. Sundays dedicated to trying out intriguing, complicated recipes have been replaced with trying to do her best to cook dinner most nights for a family of three, soon to be four. As a mom of a two-year-old, she learned that the meals she most enjoys are those that require fairly little prep work, the fewest number of pots and pans possible, yet are still delicious and nutritious. A few of the things she has figured out along the way are the inspiration for her column, Time-Saving Tips. Best of all, Karen has found that saving time often means saving money (and sanity), too!
Lauren lives in Silicon Valley with her husband and baby girl, Nora. She has been a vegetarian for several years, and is raising her daughter as a “flexitarian.” Nora gets to make most of her own food choices, but meat is usually not on the menu. Lauren loves cooking for grown-ups and her kiddo alike, and is always game to try a new recipe, or just throw something together from what’s around. She’s a CSA fanatic and plans menus around the fresh produce she gets in her box every week… but that doesn’t mean she’s above having animal-style fries and a chocolate shake from In-n-Out for dinner now and again. Lauren’s fondest hope is that Nora doesn’t inherit her insatiable sweet tooth. She feels incredibly lucky to have a daughter who is a budding foodie, and willing to try anything from her new recipe for cheesy quinoa bites to Mommy’s leftover Indian food for lunch. Lauren blogs about her cooking adventures at http://gourmetveggiemama.com. Follow Lauren on Twitter at http://twitter.com/gourmetvegmama or email her at gourmetvegmama@gmail.com.
